1. What are your thoughts on the episode on deviance?

I think deviance is perceptual. It is relative and varies based on where surrounded by whom, and how deviance impacts others. Failing social norms and departing from expected behavior are bound to create disturbances. But, it depends upon whether the deviance is positive or negative. Social control and sanction need not necessarily mean that it is right. For example, strain theory and labeling theory cause more harm than good to humans. Therefore, deviance is perceptual and differs on a case basis.

2. Have your ideas changed or stayed the same when it comes to society, socialization and deviance as you answer these questions keep in mind the topics we have explored including a thought on culture society and deviance.

Yes, my thoughts have changed. I was a bit more narrow earlier and sided for or against deviance completely depending upon the kind. But now, I think there is great importance associated with the cultural or societal component. We are more influenced by the culture that we follow and the society that we live in than anything else. Stigma and secondary deviance are concerning as a human and may be pivotal to crimes and recidivism. Victim discounting, retribution and deterrence are all products of societal or cultural impact in causing deviance.
