Gang policies are developed to reduce and control the gang-related crime happening through various strategies. The three policies followed for the same are prevention, intervention and suppression. Prevention policy focuses on preventing people from joining such gangs and attempting crime. Activities and programs are designed for the same. Prevention policy works on young people who can be easily manipulated towards the wrong or right if tried. They are based on situational causes of crime and the factors that add to the decision making of the offender and not on the traits of the offenders. Intervention policy works on drawing the gang members away from their groups and lifestyles. This is done by law enforcement coordination or by offering jobs and educational facilities to members for quitting the gangs as incentives for it. Suppression is the steps taken such as law enforcement, probation and prosecution to hold the gangs and gang members accountable for the crime and control it. It focuses on targeting gang offenders and apprehending them, prevent the connection between different gang members through gang injunctions, sharing intelligence about these members and prosecuting them.
