What motivates you to do a job well, either in a past
workplace or your current job? If you do not work, how about doing
a job well in your personal life? Give current examples. Also
summarize one theory of motivation in chapter 7, evaluating its
strengths and weaknesses for an organization whose supervisors use
it to manage employees, preferably where you currently work or have
worked.
This is in Essentials of Organizational Behavior.
answer-
There are several motivating factors which motivates me to do job well and these factors encourage me to perform better and better and grow at my job workplace. These motivating factors are first my Salary and incentives and second is Promotion and recognition at job.
for example- I worked in Samsung company as junior Product manager in which my job is to conceptualize and identify which can make product more attractive and featured so that customers can be satisfied with that. This job includes more mind work then physical work but this Job has Very good salary structure also i got praises if i work excellent which motivated me more and more.
I would summarize a theory of motivation which would help you to understand what factors motivates people at job-
This theory, also called the Motivation-Hygiene Theory or the dual-factor theory, was penned by Frederick Herzberg in 1959. This American psychologist, who was very interested in people’s motivation and job satisfaction, came up with the theory. Based on this, he developed the theory that people’s job satisfaction depends on two kinds of factors. Factors for satisfaction (motivators/satisfiers) and factors for dissatisfaction (hygiene factors/ dissatisfiers).
Performance, recognition, job status, responsibility and opportunities for growth all fall under motivators/ satisfiers
Hygiene factors/dissatisfiers are about salary, secondary working conditions, the relationship with colleagues, physical work place and the relationship between supervisor and employee.
so, if i compare my motivators with this theory then my job status and recognition at company and high salary both are motivators and hygiene factors which are required by me at my job.
and my Senior Supervisor uses the theory to motivate and manage people because he provide good incentives to motivate people to work harder and fair and equal opportunity for promotion in which we can say that it is its strength and there is a one weakness it increases more competition which causes conflicts between employees to be best and they can do anything for that which shows its weakness.
*hope above answer would help you.good luck.
