Change management is adopted by organizations to improve their overall productivity and achieve their organizational goals. For successful change to be implemented in any organization, a cultural change is required. This includes several aspects of teamwork, dedication, customer focus, etc.However, when the the employees are from diverse cultures, this becomes a challenging task on it's own. The management then needs to focus on developing all employees cultural aspect in line with the organizational culture.
Cultural differences impact both positively as well as negatively towards organizational change. Cultural differences resulting from diversity help generate innovative ideas and solutions to problems. Thus, the company benefits from this as it has several options to tackle a particular issue. Also, each individual culture has uniqueness which can be utilized to strengthen the organization. For example, certain cultures promote hard work and consistency. While, certain are based on ethical behavior. Some may believe in complete professionalism. While others may have an emotional content to their behavior and decisions are based on feelings and intuitions.
On the drawbacks of cultural differences, we observe that the people coming from different cultures have different views, ideologies and opinions. This gives rise to conflicts due to difference in opinions. Also, there can be an element of groupism and bias in such situations. Thus, it becomes very important for managers to ensure the disadvantages of cultural differences are eliminated, conflicts are resolved instantly. Therefore, the benefits of cultural differences must be reaped while minimizing the negative effects. This will lead to successful completion of change process and achieve the organizational goals and objectives.
