He administers exams remotely and finds that student score an average of 85% with a standard deviation of 10% . The exams administered in person were 78% .Which NHST would the instructor use to determine if taking exam remotely improved students exam scores and also explain why is this an appropriate test?

Hete, the scores are checked for same set of students remotely and not remotely. Hence, pairwise t-test should be performed to test the difference between exam scores.

Since, the set of students are same, and paiwise test scores are noted, paired t-test will be appropriate.
