Regarding this course, I would say this quote means to stand firm on what you believe to be morally correct. Our reasoning and actions that we take should line up close when dealing with similar situations. The philosophers we studied throughout this course seemed to be firm on what they believed to be truths of life. However, I’m sure during their life span their beliefs were influenced by life events, good and bad. Cognitive dissonance is the process of how we deal with conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviors. When encountered, we are motivated to look for ways to reduce the stress of these discomforting situations by either changing our view, gaining new information that outweighs what we originally believed or disregard the belief all together. I try to deal with cognitive dissonance with compassion for the other party. I don’t want to come off as holy than thou, because that isn’t the case. There are some beliefs for me there is no middle place, I can’t be convinced otherwise. But I and we should handle the opposing views without trying to hammer somebody who opposes. I found this class very interesting. I learned a lot about how others view morality, their views on what is ethical or not and their outlook on how someone out to live their life. My big take away would be, everyone is entitled to their opinion if you’re in a situation where there is conflicting attitudes or beliefs, treat the other party with the same respect you would want to be treated with.
What are your thoughts do you agree or disagree?
I think it is a really nice respect other people's opinion about any issues. This is so because each person has his own individuality and ethics which which he abides in life. All these things help to shape the moral character of a person which defines his true soul. We need to get acceptance for everyone around and on teh fact that each individual is different from the rest and w can never compare their thoughts and moral outlook. The opposition which we face in our lives speaks a lot about the kind of people we have around that give a shape to our work also as it always enables us to work more and more for the betterment.
