Constructivist approach to education is based on the constructive model of learning that presumes that children are active learners and construct the knowledge of the world around them through pure discovery and experimentation

It is a contrasting approach to traditional model of learning where learning was ensured through passive instruction, lectures , repetitions of the learning task etc.

The constructivist approach to learning involves children into creative ,original ,innovative ,independent thinking through creation of problem solving environment where every child takes an active part .It involves learning to take place in small heterogenous group and teachers act as facilitators rather than instructors .It makes use of experiments, field trips, research projects, class discussions.

Though such type of approach enhances novelty and problem solving skills, it lacks structure that is required in the early learning and by most of the students.

Thus schools should aim at adopting an approach that is a balance between traditional instructional appracj and constructivist approach
