If 101J of heat was removed from 50g of an element at 20C with a specific heat of 0.5.

a) What is the final temperature of the element?
b) How is the answer different because heat is removed vs added?

(I think the answer to b is that if heat is removed it is exothermic so q is negative?)

heat was removed is exothermic reaction

q    = mct

q   = mc(t2-t1)

-101   = 50*0.5*(t-20)

t    = 15.960C

The final temperature is 15.960C

Heat is removed is exothermic reaction So q is negative. But heat is added is endothermic reaction . q is positive .
