  1. Define the term "human resource management" .
  2. Describe at least four activities Dow Corning does (as describe in the introduction case) to be considered by its employees as one of the best places to work.
  3. Our text states, "ethical organizations have better long-term success". Describe the role of HRM in making this a reality.
  4. Provide an example of ethical issues that you (or someone you know) experienced in a job and explain how HR did or did not help resolve the issue.

Human means the persons engaged in the Organization

Resources : It means something valuable and adding to the productivity

Management :To manage everything and every sector in the Organization

Human Resource Management it involves appoint and thereafter work for and of employees . It involves from scratch i.e.. it involves

  1. Recruiting
  2. Selecting
  3. Employee development Program
  4. Training and development
  5. appraisal and performance development
  6. It also assure employees safety their medical insurances and compliances

Hence HRM is responsible for all the above deeds and to makes sure about the rules and regulation

Organization is knows for the work they do for the employees and for the customers .One such example is Dow Corning.

It is a Company established in 1943. Its activities proved to be the best for employees as

  1. Overtime : providing extra pay to employees
  2. Recognition to education and not to experience : They always welcomed freshers and new employee to enhance themselves i.e.. both are welcomed freshers as well as experienced
  3. Other Benefits : it includes other perks  
  4. Job Security: Signing the bond makes the employees to work longer there by getting hike.

Every Company needs to follows rules and regulation .Now who follows law and order? The employees follow, as Artifical intelligence cannot , Now who appoint those employees? The HRM is responsible for the deeds in the Organization and for following proper law and order.HRM ethics is needed

  1. To ensure that employees are not discriminated on the basis of gender , cast , religion and color etc.
  2. To ensure the eligible employees are paid as per their skills and working hours.
  3. To ensure that there is less job withdrawal in the Organization
  4. To resolve all the concerns of employees

Hence they are intermediary who act as a binding force between top management and the employees.

Ethical Issue:

We are involved in manufacturing and selling of foot wears.

Characters :Mr. Abdul was the sales representative , Ms. Leena was the Sales Manager, Mr. Jacob was the HR and Mr.Cina was the assistant of our client.

Abdul was from Muslim Community and Once while in the meeting ,Cina asked Abdul if he is Muslim and Abdul said yes

After that in another meeting Mr. Cina claimed that Abdul is terrorist and belongs to them and Mr. Cina started lecturing him about Unethical deeds done by them and also passed comments.

Abdul highlighted this issue to Leena and instead of making interaction with Mr. Cina Leena changed the working hours of Abdul so that there is no communication between them. The reason was the Mr.Cina was Representative of our biggest client and Abdul was the best sales person we could have.

But Again once on road after the working hours this issues arised when Mr. Cina deliberately blocked his road and abused him.This time Abdul went to Jacob our HR. He listen to the whole scenario and there by drafted the mail to both the authorities i.e.. Our management and Mr. Cina's Management.

The issue was taken in consideration and Mr. Cina was found guilty thereby prohibiting him to make contact with our company for lifetime.
