Some companies even hire specifically for business writing positions because professional writing skills are highly sought after in the business world.

Subject: Information on 3 Companies that hire business or technical writers
The three out of many organisations who hire technical writers are Google, Randstad & Bloomberg. The main reason that these companies hire technical writers are for clearer communication, reduced support costs & reduced documentation costs.
Technical writers play a big part at Google. They are a key link between engineers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem. Their role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help centre queries and FAQs.
Randstad uses technical writers for transitioning from legacy knowledge base to current knowledge base & for writing technical documentation for their medical equipment & products.
Bloomberg hires technical writers to create client-facing, end-user documentation for the Bloomberg Terminal and Web Applications.
The application of technical writers may not differ much from industry to industry. Their main task is to develop content.
