What are your thoughts as it relates to other benefits and not so much financially-based?
When I personally consider benefits, I do it on the basis of far more diverse reasons than just financial motivation. This is based on my understanding of my own personal needs better. Since the aspect of needs are what determines our motivation against a particular outcome or reward, while, some individuals are motivated through the financial aspect of benefits, some make their decisions based on other relevant factors such as recognition as well as esteem. All these factors can be described with the use of Maslow's hierarchy of needs where financial security, however important is only valid up to a certain point, the rest of the path is influenced by their motivation toward other types of benefits and satisfaction through the attainment of other factors such as esteem, self realization etc and therefore, we can say that other benefits are just as necessary as financial benefits but this is based on individual level of understanding of one's own needs.
When evaluating decisions (e.g., career choices, policies, or business strategies), non-financial benefits often play a critical role alongside monetary gains. Here’s a breakdown of their importance:
Work-Life Balance: Flexibility (remote work, flexible hours) reduces stress and improves mental health.
Job Satisfaction: Meaningful work or alignment with personal values often outweighs salary.
Health Benefits: Access to wellness programs, healthcare, or safer working conditions.
Skill Development: Training, mentorship, and learning opportunities enhance long-term employability.
Networking: Exposure to industry leaders or collaborative teams fosters career advancement.
Reputation: Working for an ethical or innovative organization builds credibility.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Contributing to sustainability or community projects creates purpose.
Diversity & Inclusion: Equitable workplaces foster creativity and employee retention.
Ethical Alignment: Supporting causes (e.g., climate action, social justice) adds intrinsic value.
Collaboration: Positive team dynamics boost productivity and innovation.
Autonomy: Trust and creative freedom often drive motivation more than pay.
Recognition: Non-monetary rewards (e.g., awards, public praise) validate effort.
Job Security: Stable industries or roles may outweigh higher-paying but volatile options.
Adaptability: Companies investing in employee resilience (e.g., upskilling) future-proof careers.
Retention: Employees stay longer for culture, growth, and purpose (Gallup reports 4x higher retention).
Productivity: Happy, healthy teams are 12–20% more productive (Oxford University study).
Legacy: Ethical/sustainable practices attract customers and talent, building long-term trust.
