If you had tensile tested a specimen to about half way
between where it yielded and when you expected the ultimate stress
to be reached, then stopped the test, removed the sample, and later
decided to test it again, what would the yield strength be during
the second test?
After crossing the yield point, the material will not regain its initial position completely, because it has now entered to the plastic deformation region where there is the partial recovery of strain after removing stress, this happens because the material has now suffered through breking of bonds between inside material.
in this case, if we now loaded the test specimen its yield strength will increase due to the strain hardening concept. where there are lots of deformation present inside material which creates strain field in the material, so we have to apply more force to overcome such strain field generated, and ultimately the result will be increased in yield strength.
hope this would have helped you. please rate the answer. thank you

A flat 1018 steel sample was tested in a tensile machine. Sample dimensions are width = 0.425 inch, thickness = 0.175 inch, original gauge length = 3.45 inch. The sample shows yielding when 3300 lb force is applied with a corresponding change in length of 0.06 inch. From the data, the greatest force applied during testing was 4500 lbs and the sample had elongated by total of 0.5 inch. At fracture, the force applied to the sample decreased to 3000...
6. Plot the stress-strain response that you would expect to see if a specimen of annealed mild steel is subject to uniaxial tension. Indicate the following features on the graph that you draw i). Yield strength ii). Tensile strength iii). Failure strength iv). Failure strain. A sample of the same mild steel was then subject to cold-rolling to produce a 5% reduction in thickness and a second test specimen cut from t. What would the stress-strain response of this deformed...
I have a question during my Tensile Test of Sturctural
Steel.
Ive collected all the data, can you calculate the Elastic
Modulus and referring to the stress strain curve of your samples ,
discuss and compare the results, specify the similarities and
differences if there is any and provide possible reasons.
Thanks
