Answer #1

The appalachians were formed when all the continents were joined together in the form of Pangaea. Thus due to folding in this process when the continents joined together, appalachians formed. After that there was continuous erosion and deposition of sediments in its nearby region making plains.

Since eastern coastal plain of US is formed due to sedimentation. Later when the continents were apart, eastern coast of US formed a passive margin and thus lots of rivers coming from appalachians and also the process called regression of sea formed this coastal plain.

Thus the sediment in the coastal plain is contributed by appalachians also due to erosion and sedimentatin.
