A failed internet business needs to wind up their operations. Please advise them on the best data structures to use in implementing programs for the following tasks. Give brief explanations of your advice in each case.
> Maintain an inventory of company propery. Items will be looked up by serial number and removed from the inventory as they are sold off
Items are looked up by serial number so there is a need of quickly search and retrieve information from large amounts of data so hash Tables can be used. We know that hash table is more efficient than search trees or any other table lookup structures due to their constant lookup time. In this serial number is taken and hash code is generated which is used to retrieve its record.
Basic formulas which can be used
Index=f(key, array_size)
Hash=hash function(key)
Index=hash%array_size
However if there is small inventory size than even arrays can be used.
