Your lab partner shows you a setup they constructed to measure electrical signals. The setup has two very long ordinary solid core wires that snake across the lab, passing a large motor. Your partner has grounded the measurement device to the case containing the wire connections, but it doesn’t look like the wires themselves are grounded. When motor run, it generates electromagnetic signals which can combine with the signal present in the wire and the original signal gets degraded whenever the motor run. The simple solution to this problem is to place the wire far away from the motor. Another way to remove this noise is to block the frequency of the motor signal by using a filter.
