Hi,

please find my explaination below.

1> Collisions usually occur when two devices send information using packets
at the same time, this was in ethernet/hub environment where each port in a hub where in same
collision domain.
But this is not the case in modern networks, since we are using switch/router and are in different collision
domains.
this is the main reason why collisions are not important and rarely occur these days.

2>In modern networks CPUs are fast and got lot of storage.
so affect of traffic is not that much, but still if many people are talking together , listener will have performance
issues.similarly having many devices broadcasting will have performance issues.
things might get slower,using 22 to 24 broadcasting things can be fine.
when there is a casualty like storm of broadcast messages within a short time,network performance degrades.
so it better to limit the number of broadcast devices.

3> The factors i think which will affect the broadcast are,

a) size of Broadcast domain:

If this is too big , like /16 subnet which accomodates more than 60k address,this might reduce broadcasts generated.

b) power of computers in broadcast domain:

usually in broadcast scenarion few peckets will be relevant to one processor and not for another.
so each computer has to scan all the broadcast packets it recieves either relevant or irr relevant, it will reduce the power of
computer essentially.

c) Bandwidth issues: If broadcasting is done in a switch, volume of broadcasts might reduce bandwidth for normal traffic.

d) But overall performance of the network is more in broadcast scenario.
since not everyone in a network will process packets from every other network.
broadcast is part of network,a frame is recieved in only that part of the network.
