You decide to take the plunge and go bungee jumping. Being a college student, you do this on the cheap, and buy a bungee cord with a spring constant of 888 N/m and a unstretched length of 10.91 m. You choose a bridge where you tie the end of the cord so you can jump off. Assume that you step off the bridge with zero speed and for safety assume your mass is 100 kg.

How high must the bridge be so that you can do this fun jump safely? (Being nervous, you want to be extra careful so assume air resistance is negligible). Use g = 10 m/s2.

An intrepid physics student decides to try bungee jumping. She obtains a cord that is 9.39 m long and has a spring constant of 8.00 ✕ 102N/m. When fully suited, she has a mass of 72.6 kg. She looks for a bridge to which she can tie the cord and step off. Determine the minimum height of the bridge that will allow her to stay dry (that is, so that she stops just before hitting the water below). Assume air...

You sign up for a bungee jump off a tall bridge. A thick rope with a fixed length of 16.0 m is tied to the bridge, and a bungee cord with an unstretched length of 8.00 m is then connected to the rope. The other end of the bungee cord is attached to your legs. You step off the bridge, falling from rest. The bungee cord does not start exerting any force on you until you have fallen a distance...

You and a friend decide to go bungee jumping off a nearby bridge. Tests of the bungee demonstrate that it behaves like an ideal spring. When your friend (mass=75kg) jumps you are on a rock 40.0m below the bridge and observe him to pass you at 25m/s. The bungee hangs 20.0m below the bridge when nothing is attached and 25.0m when a 75kg mass is attached but at rest (equilibrium). a) Use conservation of energy to write down a relation...

When bungee jumping from a high bridge over Victoria Falls, an operator first attaches an elastic rope to the jumper. The jumper then jumps off the bridge, falling freely until they reach the unstretched length of the rope Then, the rope begins to stretch and slows the jumper to a stop. The rope pulls the jumper back up, and they oscillate up and down for a while until the operator pulls the jumper back up to the bridge. The rope...
