Answer #1

Chosen Company: Colgate-Palmolive

Overview: Colgate-Palmolive's an American multinational, consumer-products, company (MNC) that produces household, health-care, and personal-care products. It’s a very popular brand in the consumer-goods-industry and is headquartered in Park Avenue, New York.

Diversity at Colgate:

  • Colgate's been recognized for its commitment in building a diverse workforce for years. It ranks among the top 20 of the Thomson-Reuters Diversity & Inclusion-Index - in recognition of its progress in creating a diverse and inclusive work-culture, across all of its businesses, everywhere.
  • The company's mission for diversity and inclusion clearly states that it's "-committed-to-act with-integrity, compassion, honesty and ethics-in-all-situations, as well as-to-listen-with-respect-to-others-and- value-differences....

The company believes that - "diversity-includes-more-than-just-the-obvious-traits-of-nationality/gender." Its view of diversity also comprises the "not so easily seen differences", (e.g. unique outlook and talents, life-experience, sexual-orientation, family-situation etc.). "Equal-employment-opportunity's-the-foundation-of-Colgate's-inclusive-work-environment-and-ongoing-success"

  • The company has created many policies to drive diversity and equal opportunity. There are training programs for senior roles/managers to build leadership-skills that encourage diversity and inclusiveness. The company also promotes the creation of various "Employee-Resource-Groups" ... for example - Colgate LGBT and Allies Network, Colgate Abilities Network (CAN), Colgate Jumpstart Network, Diversity Councils, Hispanic Action Network (HAN), Asian Action Network (AAN) etc.
  • Percentage of board members having a cultural-background different from the location of the company's corporate headquarters is rather exemplary.
  • Its Board of Directors is made up of (roughly) 30% females, and its management/senior management comprises over 40% females who're in charge.
  • Over 30% of the company's US workforce is made up of minorities.
  • The company's never been a subject of any controversy in terms of workforce diversity & opportunity or industrial relations (for things like wages, promotion, harassment, discrimination etc.)

How the company's succeeded because of its diversity-

  • A business's success is typically inferred from its-
    • Market Share & Profits
    • Competitiveness
    • Customer Satisfaction and positive feedback
  • In terms of Market Share and profits, Colgate's been a global leader in the toothpaste market (with a market share of over 42%) as well as the manual-toothbrushes market (with a share of over 32%). It ranks very highly in terms of customer satisfaction and is counted among the most trustworthy brands world-wide..
  • We can sense the "behind the scene" cohesion, efforts, quality-consciousness and value-generation practices at play - in these results.
  • Encouragement of diversity enables open-minded learning, better employee relationships and a friendly work-environment. It leads to more productive, creative and innovative teams. Colgate's success story is surely attributable to its endeavours in the areas of diversity and inclusion, among other things.
  • The company's track record in the agenda for diversity's already exemplary. An HR Manager needn’t do anything differently.
