example My friend accused me of being too negative about the possibility of finding rewarding, well-paying work. |
I became defensive and angrily denied his claim. In turn I accused him of being too critical. |
This was clearly an expressed struggle and I perceived interference in my choice of jobs. Possibly we both perceived scarcity of the reward of feeling good about ourselves. |
Competing |
After arguing for some time, we left each other, both feeling upset. I’m sure we’ll both feel awkward around each other for a while. |

My Findings:
| Sr. No | Incident | Your behavior | How it meets the definition of conflict | Your conflict style | Consequences |
| 1 | Debate among friends on how tough is life | Argument | Since every one felt differently hence it was purely fight an argument | Fight | We all left the room argumentatively with heavy heads |
| 2 |
In an interview I was asked personal questions which I was not comfortable answering |
Feeling Burdened |
Conflict in my head whether to answer or not if I don't
answer I won't get selected but if I answer I wouldn't be happy with my self |
Flight (Run Away) | Skipped from the room with the first chance I got |
| 3 | Me
and my friend disussing how to study for the entrance exam |
Motivated / Encouraged All Pepped up |
Setting up compatible goals/ Exploring Pain areas/Identifying resources | Collaborative | Felt content / got a way to approach the coming entrance test |
No
Style depends on situation not the person because it’s the situation or the topic that is being discussed which will signal you where to fight back/ Flight or be collaborative
The first two incidents
1st incident we could have all sat amicably and jotted points of how fair and unfair life has been to us till date and then reached a consensus but instead we all chose to fight.
2nd incident I could have told my interviewer that I was not comfortable in answering such questions and he could have understood me rather than flight.
4. Are you satisfied with your usual way(s) of approaching conflict? Why or why not?
I think I can use more collaborative style than the above two as it will help me function better is what I feel personally.
