"Brexit" is a portmanteau of "British" and "exit". It is a scheduled exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union after a referendum in June 2016 in which ~52% UK citizens voted in favor of exit of UK from EU. The UK government formally announced the country's withdrawal in March 2017 which was due to conclude with the UK withdrawing on 29 March 2019. However, after that there have been delays in exit process due to deal negotiations between UK and EU. The current deadline for the exit is 31st October, 2019.

Currently, the UK prime minister Boris Johnson told that he expected the EU to grant an extension to his 31 October deadline, even though he really did not want one. He has said he will give MPs more time to debate his Brexit deal, but only if they agree to a 12 December general election.
