(A) For California data

use TI 84 calculator

STAT --> EDIT and enter the data into L1 list

Go to STAT --> CALC --> 1-VarStats

List : L1

Freq : None

Press Calculate, this gives us

Range = 32, mean = 33.1, variance = 120.99

(B) For lowa data

use TI 84 calculator

STAT --> EDIT and enter the data into L2 list

Go to STAT --> CALC --> 1-VarStats

List : L2

Freq : None

Press Calculate, this gives us

Range = 19, mean = 24.5, variance = 32.72
