There are a number of factors that were responsible for the cultural upheavals of the 1960s. No single reason can give rise to such conditions. These could be analysed as follows:

  • The greatest group that was seen in the US in thar time was that of the baby boomers.
  • With the launch of Sputnik, there was an increased blow to the image of the US, especially in the era of increased tensions with the other front.
  • The war in Vietnam and USAs involvement in the same added to the political crisis.
  • As a result of the war, there was a loss of many lives.
  • Affluence also played a major role, as people started to change with the changes in time.
  • There was revolt by the youth
  • the young people started revolting against the authorities and people started to express themselves in a more free manner.
