A random sample of 8 observations were made to measure the amount of salt used on roadways per week. When a hypothesis test was conducted to test whether the population variance σ ² = 1000 metric tons squared, they found the observed value of the test statistic to be 9.6335.

a) Find a point estimate for σ, the population standard deviation of salt used per week.

b) Obtain a 90% confidence interval for σ 2
