Identify three diversity challenges a global company like Unilever faces. Consider both employees and customers, as well as other stakeholders in your response and discuss why they need to address these challenges.

Three diversity challenges faced by global companies like Unilever as as follows:

1. Language and Communication

  • Global Companies like Unilever have workforce and customers all around the world who speak different language based on their nationality and mother tongue. This can lead to several confusion and miscommunications between the workforces or with the customers. As a result it may lead to loss of productivity. Thus proper training for the employees for language can help to prevent this issue. Also hiring people who speak various languages(bilingual or multilingual) shall be hired by such company which can reduce the communication gap and company can benefit from such diversity in longer run.

2. Ethnic and Cultural difference

  • There can be employees or customers with diverse ethnic and cultural background and this may lead to several cases of discrimination as some people may have prejudice against others due to such differences. Strong company policies that such discrimination can not be tolerated should be put in place by companies apart from several training and awareness programs for the ethnic and cultural difference.

3. Beliefs

  • There may be employees and customers who may hold diverse beliefs which can be political, religious etc and these differences may pose a big challenge for the company and few individuals may try to impose their beliefs on others or may to try to prove that their beliefs are superior to others belief which may create a differences between the employees or customers. Employees need to be reminded that such things don't happen at the workplace as it impacts the productivity severly.
