Duty of care is basically a legal responsibility. It tries to avoid those behaviors which can cause harm to other people. If an accountant is there then it is his duty of care that he will prepare customer's tax return with all the factors of corrections.

He also tries to avoid any kind of discrepancies. All these are done to ensure a correct tax return. Reasonable person test talks about a hypothetical person. That hypothetical person is basically a person who is social in nature.

That person also practices care for others. That person have moral skills along with good analytical abilities. That person basically sets a standard so that liability of society can easily be determined. That person behaves in legally appropriate manner.

If another person's action does not match with the action of that reasonable person then the action will be called as illegal action. All these basically set a standard and guide other people about their behavior. It also ensure the smooth running of social system with consent of majority of population.
