List three (3) foundations for the slave trade and discuss each regarding their effect on social conditions.
One of the most important foundations of slavery is colonization. As the new world started expanding and when Britain, Spain, France, Portugal and the Netherlands started expanding their colonial border across the globe, they needed more people to work in their colonies. Thus, people from Africa were stolen from their lands and brought to the colonies. Second foundation is the increasing number of sugar plantations that required more labor thus paving way for more slaves. Slaves were brought in huge numbers across the Atlantic where they were treated like farm animals. The third foundation is religious oppression. Most of the time, those who are not Christians and Muslims were brought as slaves to the new lands and to the mother countries. Although the practice of slavery is abolished in all the countries, the scars slavery left is still visible as the African descents across the globe has an accumulated disadvantage compared to the native people in countries where they were moved. Slavery moved more people away from their homelands thus helping the colonizers to exploit the resources completely leaving only barren lands.
