Answer #1

Great writers are the ones who work selflessly towards their work. Through their writings they try to create a long lasting impact on society. Their writings are based on following a true approach and unbiased attitude. They even, sometimes have to be victim of political activities and they face it boldly. One such writer was Kuldeep Nayar from India. He was also a journalist, human rights activist, and author. Nayar studied journalism at prestigious Medill School of journalism, Northwestern University.

Nayar began his career as an Urdu press reporter. Following this, he held many positions in the coming years, like he was editor of the English newspaper The Statesman. Nayar was famous for his critical and sticking-to-truth style of writing. He never sacrificed his principles and never aligned himself to any political association. He based his writings on truth and they were intended to project the happenings as they were without sacrificing the crux. He was a prolific writer and wrote extensively on political, social and economic issues plaguing the nation.

In later part of his life, Nayar diverted his attention on peace activities. He led various initiatives in establishing good and healthy cross border relationships. His celebrated column ‘Between the lines’ is a true reflection of the dedication with which he advocated the freedom of press. Throughout his life, he had been vehemently talking about the role press plays and its importance in social, political and economic sphere. He was critical, vociferous, and unabashed in his approach.

He authored many books; some of which are India – The critical years, Distant Neighbours – A tale of the subcontinent, Suppression of Judges, In Jail, India house, Wall at Wagah, Without Fear: The life and Trial of Bhagat Singh

His works are characterized by use of excellent English that makes his works must read. He presents the episodes in a way that grips the readers. His work about Bhagat Singh is worthy of true praise. He presents the story of a great freedom fighter and revolutionary of India in a way no writer has been able to do before. Nayar goes to the details of every aspect of the great freedom fighter and tells about his intellectual abilities, thoughts, works, and provides a comprehensive biography of the great personality from history. It is quite evident in Nayar’s work that he comes up with ideas following his detailed research that makes his works precious.

Nayar’s journalistic legacy is difficult to be replaced with. He acted as a benchmark for the entire journalistic fraternity including senior members as well as press and journalism students.
