Answer #1

using impulse relation

I = mv - mu

9 = 5 - 0.35 u

u = - 11.429 m/s

negative sign indicates that the final velocity directed opposite to the direction of initial velocity

    A batter hits a foul ball. The not-so-fast 0.140-kg baseball that was approaching him horizontally leaves the bat at 30.0 m/s in the opposite direction, causing the ball's initial kinetic energy (i.e. the ball's kinetic energy before it was struck with the bat) to increase by 125%. What is the magnitude of the impulse delivered to the baseball?
