Do you think the problems of hierarchy are still as common today as they were 40 plus years ago?
Hierarchy is an organizational structure where the positions and preferences are allotted as per the level of importance and ranking. In a family structure, the husband and wife are at the top level and the children follow.
In an organization, the hierarchy is understood by the corporate ladder, where the topmost position is held by the owner or the group of level who shared the same position followed by the other employees as per their importance and ranking.
The importance of hierarchy in an organization there is an authority figure there is a clear process of reporting, clear communication, clear decision making as no group ar team is involved the CEO decision is final.
The disadvantages are that there may be a lack of collaboration, lack of innovation and more bureaucracy.
Maslow developed the hierarchy of needs that is divided into five-level, this is called the motivational theory of need and as per his theory, an individual fulfills his need at each level before moving to the next level.
1. The first level is psychological needs that include food, water, warmth, rest, air, clothing, and shelter, These are the basic needs of survival. Without fulfilling these needs one cannot function optimally.
2. Safety needs; For steady growth safety that is security and stability is important
3. Love and belonging needs: This is important for a personal relationship, feelings of belongings that can provide stability and peace of mind, it can develop a social life and one can build trust and intimacy.
4 Esteem needs: It is an important level. at this level, one wants esteem for himself and getting respect and reputation from others and feeling of accomplishment.
5 Self Actualization: this is the highest level where one recognizes his potential and reaches to the highest level of accomplishment. it is the fulfillment of the desire and reaching the top.
Looking at this theory Meslow theory is valid in today's life as well, as one requires love, relationship and friendship that necessary for the development of social life.
But the problems of the archy are still as common today as they were 40 plus years ago because the needs of the person are changing with every change it is in the ascending order and to fulfill the needs struggle is still going on as it was going on 40 years ago. Everyone cannot reach the heights level olf his potential, thus the unfulfilled desires and the does occur in one's life leading to anxiety, and depression. Thus the fulfilments of needs, obeying the orders from the authority, and class system based on ranking and importance are prevailing in an organization or at a family level.
Thus the problem of the hierarchy is still present as human needs and requirements are changing but it is increasing. First, humans used to walk now they want to drive in the latest model car.
