Cone cells of retina are responsible for color vision as well as vision in bright light. They are located in fovea (yellow spot) only. Ratina contains another type of cell known as rod cell. Rod cells are responsible for the vision in dim light. This type of cells are located in entire ratina. So, we are able to see the pen before we able to distinguish what color it is.
