In Arkansas, we have several drip stone caves that are composed of calcium carbonate. One is the Blanchard Spring System. If you have not been to see this wonder of nature, you have really missed a wonderful site as well as a wonderful chemical process of saturation, evaporation, deposition, and precipitation. Beside the chemistry that is ongoing underground, there are several atmospheric process competing at the same time. Let me explain. Currently Arkansas has two nuclear plants and several coal burning plants to provide electrical power to Arkansas residents. We import coal from other states because Arkansas coal is too high in sulfur and burning such coal will result in the production of acid rain.
