Answer #1

I used to work as volunteer for Clean India Green India program in my hometown. The main motto of this team is to gather on weekends at a specified place and clean that place. we mostly used to clean all the public places like parks, beaches, temples etc.

the main challenges faced by our team are:

  • whenever the group size is large, most of the time is spent unproductively as there will be more room for unnecessary discussions.
  • interpersonal antagonism used to be more as the volunteer group involves people from all over the city irrespective of caste, creed or status.
  • whenever a topic is raised, there used to be a lot of disturbances caused due to the differences in opinion and often the common purpose of the group is lost.

benefits of controversy:

  • whenever a controversy arises people will come up with more ideas and reasons.
  • there will give way to better time management and financial management.
  • it helps every team member to grow his knowledge.
  • people try to come up with more creative ways of using the limited resources.
  • it will also facilitate personal growth of every individual

Dealing with controversy:

  • Firstly, we must understand others point of views, opinions and ideas.
  • respect the cultural differences, power, authority, class etc of fellow team mates which will indirectly contexts the controversies
  • encouraging team mates to voice their disagreement in a polite manner.
  • give training to distract oneself from emotionally charged situations.
  • setting some ground rules that are acceptable and approved by everyone regarding the conduct and meeting procedures.

Finally every team member should learn the difference between the controversy and conflict in any group work.
