If you added 59 grams of NaCl to 1 Liter of water you would not obtain a 1 molar solution! Why?
Molarity (M) is defined as the of moles of solute per liter of the solution.
molarity = moles of solute/ liters of solution.
now, here 1 mole of NaCl = 59 grams.
But, solid NaCl weighing 59 grams will itself have some volume and adding 1L water would make the final volume slightly greater than 1L hence the Molarity would change, the correct way of making 1 molar solution is to add water to 59 grams NaCl till the final volume reaches 1L.
