The relationship between North Korea-United States is an international relationship. The diplomatic as well as political relationship in between US and North Korea is historically aggressive. This relationship was developed for the first time during the Korean war.

During the middle of 19th century, Korea stop western trade. In 1866, an American gun boat was attacked by the Korean forces. That Boat was about to make a negotiation of a trade treaty. This attack was occurred because that boat denied Korean instructions. At the end of Russo-Japanese War, US negotiated peace in 1905. In 1882 US-Korea started trade relations. After World War 2nd, UN divided Korea. North Korea-US relation went through Soviet Military Government. During this period, North Korea condemned US and created a negative view of US because of two reasons.

  • Submission of North Korea to Soviet pressures.
  • Huge opposition of Japan to US occupation.

US-North Korea made the greater encounter after Inchon Landing. During this period support of the people in US for conducting ground troops to Korea was significant. In 1960, certain US soldiers absconded to North Korea but only one person returned. In 1968, Pueblo incident occurred where a spy ship of US was captured.

During the recent past, Nuclear program of North Korea can be set as an example of this relationship. This program consist of six tests of nuclear weapons, their growth of heavy missiles which have the ability to target people at even a thousand mile distance. Also it continue to hit US as well as South Korea with these weapons and conventional forces. Due to this nuclear threat, George W Bush called North Korea as " Axis of Evil". In order to take care of the interests of US in North Korea, Sweden acts a the protective power in case of consular maters. US kept a rigid military presence in the nation of South Korea from the time of Korean War. But as a representative of whole of Korea, US consider South Korea.

In the year 2015, a survey was conducted in US namely Gallup's Annual World Affair's Survey. According to the survey, 87% gives a negative voting towards North Korea were as only 9% favored them. During 2014, BBC conducted a world service poll and had taken the opinion of US regarding North Korea. The result was terrific and considered as the World's one of the most negative view of North Korea. According to the survey, 90% of the whole of the Americans show negative view. In 2017 nuclear weapons programs of North Korea expanded at a speedy rate than ever before and hence huge tension arises in between these countries.

But now, during the presidential ship of Trump, both of the countries tends to have a diplomatic stand. This is after the Trump-Kim Summit 2018 which was conducted in Singapore on June 12, 2018. Based on the summit, President of North Korea Kim Jong-un, President of South Korea Moon Jae-in and US President Donald Trump reached into a 2018-19 Korean Peace Process. The purpose of this process is to make a solution for all the conflicts which had been existing in between North Korea and US until the date and also to denuclearize Korean Peninsula.
