Answer #1

Manufacturing process basically classified in three categories i.e. casting, forging and machining.

Solidification is the process involved in casting and forming is the process involved in forging.

The dimensional accuracy is the major point of difference in these two processes.

solidification: for solidification we have to consider various allowances as follows

- shrinkage allowance - after solidification the object shrinks

- draft allowance - to remove the solidified object from mould

- machining allowance

- distortion allowance

- shaking allowance

This allowances make the dimensions of mould and dimensions of the finished object considerably different.

Forming:

Where as in forming process dimensional accuracy is much better than solidification.

Forming takes place without additional heat so shrinking, draft, shake , distortion allowance are not there. Only machining allowance is there in some objects.
