Terra preta is an anthropogenic soil found in the Amazon basin. It is a type of dark black soil. And because of its black color it is also known as Amazonian dark earth. Apart from this it is also called Indian black earth.terra preta do indió is the name of Terra preta soul in Portuguese.

Scientists are studying terra preta do indió in hopes of replicating it for modern agriculture because this soil has the ability to pull a large amount of carbon dioxide from that present in the atmosphere which will further lead to the prevention of global warming.
