A glacial bowl has a silty-sand confined aquifer of thickness = 73 m in it, which is overlain by hard clay. α= 10-8 m2/N, β= 4.4 x 10-10 m2/N, and n = 0.13 The head in the aquifer is a uniform 100 m above the aquifer’s bottom. Calculate the amount of water you would get out of pumping this aquifer, per square meter of its areal extent, before you start to de-water the pores in the aquifer (id est, before the confined aquifer becomes an unconfined aquifer). Answer in cubic meters of water per square meter of aquifer. If you haven’t started dewatering the pores in the aquifer, where’s the water coming from?
