Canning tomato sauce involves putting 5 gallons of water into the canner and heating it until it was boiling. Your kids decided to take a long bath in their big tub at about that time. They had filled the tub up with all the hot water that they could before they ran out of hot water. The capacity of the water heater at their house is 20 gallons and the temperature it is set at is 115 oF. When the kids filled the tub with water, they also mixed in about 5 gallons of water using the cold tap. After playing for a while, the water started to get cold and the kids asked for more hot water. You did a quick estimation and decided to pour the water from the canner, which was now at 95 oC into the tub. Answer the following:

a) What is the maximum temperature of the water in the tub when the kids turned off the water?

b) Assuming the temperature of the water after it had started to get cold was 85 oF, how hot would it have gotten when the canning water was added?

c) If you refilled the water heater with hot water and heated all the water up to its set point, how much energy (kJ) would you have had to add.

d) What is the maximum amount of canning water that could have been added before the temperature was too high and the water uncomfortable (in gallons)
