In its rivalry with Westinghouse, General Electric instituted a “price protection” plan. This plan stated that if G.E. lowered its price, it would rebate the price difference to its past customers. Explain why this plan makes collusion between G.E. and Westinghouse easier. (Hint: how does G.E.’s gain from deviating change with the price protection plan in effect?)

Answer- It is an example of price protection. Which means providing a protection to the customer for the price customers are paying for the services.

G.E is gaining in a way that after price protection plan being imposed the number of customers with them will stick to them. The collusion is easier as they can deviate the price easily in the positive manner, which means they can increase the price, even though they will decrease the price the worst case is customer switches to the other company which is a part of collusion i.e switching of customers when there is a collusion between two companies in order to get better service.
