In management practice, there is referent power, coercive power, expert power and legitimate power. Today, leaders also cite reward power as a form of strategy to help improve performance. All these are intricately linked to leadership because how power is acquired and the power that is practiced determine the efficacy of leadership. Power affects leadership by;
1.It helps to get things done by the team. More so, referent power.
2.Power is a form of authority given to leaders and this authority influences ad gives direction to a team.

Implicit Leadership Theories explain that a team develops certain expectations for their leader. These expectations that could be in terms of a leader' communication style, traits and even skills determine how the people respond to a leader. The ILT therefore affect the relationship between a leader and his team by helping to understand what traits a leader is expected to have. The ILT gives insight that just as much as team members have the cognitive expectations leaders to have these expectations. This being said, the theory then then helps both fronts to meet these expectations. A great leader is naturally aware of the expectations. By observation, they can tell or predict the reason for responses and behavior from a team to their leadership. This way, the ILTs then work to find improve the relationship between a leader and their team members by creating that cognitive synergy.
