Dante Alighieri a 14th century Italian writer had written an epic poem Divine Comedy. In this poem, he has use the words Virgil, Guide, Charon and Cato.

Virgil is a Roman poet who has helped and guided Dante through Hell's Inferno. Dante and Virgil are helped by Beatrice, who was sent by the Virgin Mary to help them. Dante and Virgil are going to the underworld.

Guide, Virgil is sent as a guide to help Dante through the 9 circles of Hell which are Limbo, Lust, Gluttony, Greed Wrath, Heresy, Violence, Fraud and Treachery.

Charon, is the pilot of the ferry that would take them through river Acheron and Hell. Charon does not want Dante to enter the ferry as he is a living being and only dead souls travel in his ferry so Virgil forces Charon to take him as Dante is on his way to divine grounds.

Cato of Utica and Statius are in purgatory along with all the virtuous non-Christians.
