Identify the acid, base and its conjugated pairs for the following reactions:

  1. HClO2(ac) + NaIO(ac)    →    HIO(ac) +  NaClO2(ac)
  2. HS-(ac) + HF(ac)    →    H2S(ac) + F-(ac)
  3. HS-(ac) + OH-(ac)    →    S2-(ac) + H2O(l )

keep in mind acid is proton donar and base is proton acceptor

1) for reaction HClO2 + NaIO   HIO + NaClO2 in this reaction HClO donate proton to NaIO therefore in this reaction HClO2 is acid and after donation of proton it 's conjugate base is ClO2- which forms ionic bond with Na+ to form NaClO2  

ans here HClO2 is acid and ClO2- is conjugate base of HClO2  

here NaIO is base and HIO is conjugate acid

2) for reaction HS + HF   H2S + F-  

in this reaction HF donate proton to HS hence HF acts as acid and after donation of proton F- is conjugate base formed from HF

in this reaction HS accept proton from HF hence HS acts as a base and after accepting proton HS converts into H2S therefore H2S is conjugate acid of base HS

ans here HF is acid and F- is conjugate base

HS is base and H2S is conjugate acid

3) for reaction HS(ac) + OH-(ac)   S2-(ac) + H2O(l)     

in this reaction HS donate proton to OH- hence HS acts as acid and after donation of proton S- is conjugate base formed from HS

in this reaction OH- accept proton from HS hence OH- acts as a base and after accepting proton OH- converts into H2O therefore H2O is conjugate acid of base OH-  

ans here HS is acid and S- is conjugate base

OH- is base and H2O conjugate acid
