The chemicals (substances) can move across the membranes through different through different transport mechanisms such as:

  • Passive transport
  • Active transport
  • facilitated diffusion
  • Osmosis
  • Bulk transport

FACILITATED DIFFUSION:

          The specialized protein carrier molecules, attract and bind to the chemicals that has to be transferred. The carrier then carries the chemicals to the other side of the membrane. The carrier sites are specific in nature.

                                                         The factor that influences these mechanism is: protein molecule, binding site, etc.....

PASSIVE TRANSPORT:

           In this transport system, the chemicals move across the membranes , by concentration gradient, without using energy. The factor that influences this mechanism is: lipophilicity, etc....
