Suggest an explanation for the observations that ethanol, C2H5OH, is completely miscible with water and that ethanethiol, C2H5SH, is soluble only to the extent of 1.5 g per 100 mL of water.

Ethanol has hydrogen attached to oxygen.

So, it can form hydrogen bond with water whereas C2H5SH cant form hydrogen bond. For hydrogen bond to be formed, compound should have N,O or F and there should be H attached to it.

So, C2H5OH is highly soluble
