Networks can be set up in a number of different ways depending on the number of devices, the distances between those devices, the transmission speed requirements, and other factors. The most popular configurations, or topologies, include the bus, token ring, star, and star bus topologies.

These two retailers have such vastly differet network configuration because Amazon is a retailer which operates in many business like grocery stores, online consumer products, web cloud computing etc while Dollar general provide every day low cost products to customers which does not need too much network configuration facilities.

The another factor is level of operations factor under which amazon has many acquisitions and subsidiaries so its level of operation is vast and to handle the technical task these network configuration is required in each level of operations while dollar general's operations are not big as compared to amazon.

so, this why they have different level of network configurations.
