Burnout is a saturation point wherein a person is
mentally,physically and emotionally extremely exhausted because of
long term stress.This happen when a person becomes
emotionally drained and unable to meet demands.
Employees also experience a lot of burnout due to work
stress,like,too much work load,not being able to meet
deadlines,personal stress affecting their work etc.When employees
experience burnout their performance is compromised as well as self
belief.
There are few warning signs which the superivisers and bosses
need to keep in check to identify whether employee is experiencing
burnout or not:-
When an employee is not able concentrate on work consistenly
and not meeting deadlines
If the employee shows unnecessary anger on colleagues
If they feel aliented in their workplace,not communicating with
anyone and sitting alone
Having feelings of cynicism towards their job
Thinking too much about that they are meant for the job
Physical exhaustion like dark circle,weight loss,gloomy facial
expressions are also signs to watch out for.
Also increased absense from work or even getting into frequent
accidents at work due to lack of concentration
If as a supervisor you see,that one of your very efficient
employee has not been performing up to the mark,is showing low
productivity consistently,not completing his/her reports on
time,showing lack of concentration in meetings or simply not
enjoying work etc. then they might be experiencing burnout
Solutions:-
Supervisors should make sure to regularly monitor their
employees performance;how they are working individually and in
teams,checking that too much work load is not their
Giving regular feedback is also important for an
employee.Sometimes lack of recognition from supervisors makes the
employee feel stressed out,so feedback about performance is
important
Giving employees some recreational acitvities at workplace to
just unwind themselves,like playing sports,holding some dance or
singing competitions and even providing them small vacations
etc.This will help them destress and also make them valued in the
company
Make work more interesting for them rather than the same old
routine everyday
Sometimes they might be suffering from some personal
stress,recognise that and give them flexible working hours so that
they can handle their personal problems and get back with more
focus on work
Workplace environment should also be changed or modified if an
employee is feeling disturbed with the surrounding noises,lack of
good furniture and just an uncomfortable place to work
Organizations should have a counselor so that employees can
have sessions with them to relieve their stress.They could also
hold yoga and meditation sessions for everyone.
