Topic: Leading in an organization steps in the Creative Process
An important part of becoming a successful leader is being creative. There are five steps in the creative process that effective leaders usually follow; opportunity or problem recognition, immersion, incubation, insight, verification and application. Step one, opportunity or problem recognition, is someone who finds a new opportunity or a problem that needs to get fixed. Step two, immersion, is someone who focuses and gets immersed in the problem. Step three, incubation, is someone who “keeps the assembled information in their mind for a while.” Step four, insight, is when the solution randomly appears to the person’s mind such as during a shower or while sleeping. Step five, verification and application, is when someone tries to prove that the solution to the problem has merit. Verification includes “gathering supporting evidence, using logical persuasion, and experimenting with new ideas. Application requires tenacity because most novel ideas are first rejected as being impractical.” (DuBrin, 2015)
Bill Gates is by far one of the most creative leaders in the world. It was always in his belief “that the power of creativity and intelligence can make the world a better place.” His creativity has definitely made the world a better place as Microsoft is one of the most creative and innovative companies in the world. His vision back when Microsoft began, every home and every work desk should have a computer, has definitely come true. The creativity of improving computers and its software has revolutionized the industry tremendously. Microsoft also revolutionized the gaming industry with its creativity by creating XBOX back in the early 2000s. From analyzing the five-step creative process, Bill Gates effectively used steps one, two and five. He discovered a new opportunity of revolutionizing the computer and gaming industry. He concentrated on the opportunities and gathered as much information as he could, even staying up long nights and weekends. Finally, he used all this information and proved that the creative opportunities were very much possible and will be a life changing idea. Gates was known for being a workaholic so when he had an idea, he was going to study and do research on the idea until he knew it would become a successful idea. (Gates, 2005)
For chegg: Discuss how Mark Zuckerberg skills in using the creative process differ from the skills of Bill Gates
Answer: The Mark Zukerberg differs from Bill Gates in skills of using creative process. Bill Gates as mentioned is more effective in using the steps one, two and five namely, the problem recognition, immersion and verification and application. Mark Zukerberg on the other hand is more effective in terms of incubation and insight. He incubated the idea of Facebook by gathering and sharing information and challenging the older assumptions. Through this he developed new insights that enabled him to improve and popularize the concept of Face Book. Initially the people joined facebook slowly but as he gathered information and through his insight developed the platform he was able to make it into a huge success. Thus he showed better performance in terms of incubation and insight.
