Is language a unique ability of humans? Discuss evidence as to whether other types of animal communication can be considered language. Does the function of language in human societies serve some unique role not found in other types of animal communication?
Almost all the animals communicate among themselves through various means. This would mean that they would be able to communicate regarding their present environment. However, they lack the ability to think thus, act on their instinct. Human beings on the other hand, use language to consolidate time which would mean that they would be able to think of past and future apart from acting on their instincts. It would mean that only human beings would be able to think, feel and work towards making their future by communicating with other people. There is also another distinction between the communication of animals and human beings which is that human beings would be able to use non-verbal cues, attitude and personality.
