You are walking down the sidewalk singing “zipiti do dah” at 1.00 m/s. Your mass is 50.0 kg.

  1. What is your de Broglie wavelength?
  1. We know that when a wave passes through an opening diffraction occurs, twisting the wave out of shape. But you walk through a 1.00 m wide door, still at 1.00 m/s with no such effect occurring. Why not?

diffraction does not occur in the case when the wave passes through a wide door because the primary condition for the diffraction to take place is that the wavelength should be of the same order as that of the dimensions of the opening or the diffracting object .

Since wavelength is no where near to the dimensions of the door ( 1 m wide ) , hence no diffraction takes place .
