According to this article, when leaders role model appropriate behaviors in the workplace it fosters morality at work and creates similar patterns of behavior in others’. Creating ethical behaviors will lead employees to demonstrate greater work productivity and feel job satisfaction due to the trust and respect that develops from the role modeling that they receive from an ethical leader.

What can you learn from this article and apply to your current position?

From this article I have learned that anyone can be a role model and it does not necessarily have to be a manager or leader. You can be influenced within and outside of an organization. You can be a good role model by teaching good behaviors. Therefore I can apply this to my job by demonstrating my best behaviors to the people I work with and come in contact with on a daily basis as this may influence them to do the same. Also, ethics is connected to the ways that leaders or people interact with others, therefore when someone is courteous, kind, and respectful toward others, people associate these behaviors with a high level of ethical conduct. These are behaviors that I can also continue to display in my current position.

It aptly points out towards the importance of role modeling and ethics in improving the performance of the employees. The Charisma of a leader plays an important role in making him successful. The charismatic leaders act as a role model for their followers and can successfully motivate them to produce results. This links the leader role modeling with the employee outcomes. Similarly ethical leaders are considered trustworthy and the employees listen to them. Therefore for becoming successful in the future career as a leader, one has to take into account both these qualities. The leaders need to develop themselves as a role model for the employees and demonstrate them those behaviors that they expect from them like ethics. If the leaders are able to practice what they preach in an ethical way they may motivate the employees and improve their performance.
